# Billing and limits ## The subscription Nitpick costs $9 per month, excluding VAT where it applies. There is no free period. Payments, VAT and invoices are handled by Paddle, which sells Nitpick as merchant of record. Only your email address and your account id go to Paddle, never reports or anything about your users. You start the subscription in the browser, in the step of `nitpick login` where you create or open your account. Without a running subscription there is no token, so no installation. The same page is where you renew later: `/billing`. ## Cancel or change payment Open `/billing/portal`. It takes you to the Paddle customer portal, where you cancel, change the payment method and download invoices. Canceling does not stop anything at once: the subscription runs to the end of the period you paid for, and only then do the terms below begin. ## After you stop: locked, not broken Your users never get an error because you stopped paying. In order: | Period | What happens | |---|---| | The first 14 days after the end of the paid period (`grace`) | Everything keeps working. The dashboard, your agent and the CLI show a warning with the date it ends. | | The next 30 days (`locked`) | The component still collects reports, but new ones are locked. You and your agent can read and resolve the reports that were not locked. For the locked ones you only see how many there are. | | After that (`inactive`) | The feedback tab disappears from your apps. Reports that were not locked can be read, not changed. | When you pay again, everything is readable at once, including what was locked (as far as it still exists), and the tab is back within a minute of the next app start. Deleting: locked reports are deleted from 48 hours after the end of the 30 days. Reports that were not locked are deleted from 48 hours after another 90 days. The screenshot of a report is always deleted 12 months after the report arrived; the report stays. Terms are in UTC. The dashboard shows them in your own time zone, the CLI and MCP in ISO time. ## Emails When the subscription ends you get emails, so nothing comes as a surprise: - when the 14 days begin, with the date reports start to lock; - 3 days before that date, with the number of reports since the subscription ended; - 7 days before the tab disappears and the locked reports are deleted, with the number that will be deleted; - 7 days before the other reports are deleted, with their number. Only your email address and the text of the mail go to the mail provider. ## Limits | Limit | Value | When it is reached | |---|---|---| | Reports per month | 2,000 per account | A calendar month in UTC. Accepted reports count; deleting does not lower the count; locked reports count. Above the limit the platform answers `429 monthly_limit` and the tab disappears until the first of the next month. | | Size of an image | 1 MB | A larger image answers `413 too_large`. The components make the image smaller until it fits. | | Apps | 50 per account | Creating another answers `409 limit_reached`. | | Tokens | 25 per account, not counting revoked ones | Creating another answers `409 limit_reached`. | The limits on apps and tokens are far above normal use and only exist against misuse. The message names what you can clean up: remove an app you no longer use in the dashboard, or run `nitpick tokens list` and `nitpick tokens revoke `. From 80% of the monthly limit the dashboard, `nitpick whoami`, a line on stderr and the top of `list_apps` and `list_feedback` show how many reports are used. At the limit your users see "Feedback is not available right now." instead of the form. See [Troubleshooting](/docs/troubleshooting). Where to read the state: `nitpick whoami`, `GET /api/v1/me` in the [API reference](/docs/api), and the headers `Nitpick-Subscription` and `Nitpick-Usage`.
